Let’s not Forget Cap and Trade

With all the focus on health care right now, it is easy to forget  Obama’s other great gift he wants to bestow on the economy, the Cap and Trade bill.  This bill, if it becomes law, will further weaken the economy, destroy jobs and generally get the government even further into our everyday lives.  Despite the propaganda from Al Gore and others, the science is far from conclusive when it comes to climate change.  A couple simple examples follow.

As the Heritage Foundation says, “out of the entire atmospheric makeup, only one to two percent is made up of greenhouse gases with the majority being nitrogen (about 78 percent) and oxygen (about 21 percent). Of that two percent, “planet-killing” carbon dioxide comprises only 3.62 percent while water vapor encompasses 95 percent. And of the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, humans cause only 3.4 percent of annual CO2 emissions.”

And check out the next two charts from an excellent March 2009 article in Powerline, drawing on presentations from the 2009 International Conference on Climate Change by the Heartland Institute, showing clearly that climate swings are normal in history, well before man was emitting any carbon based fuels.  This graph is from Denis Avery.

Next, a chart from Don Easterbrook shows the temperature variation just in the last 30 years.

Also from Powerline in May of this year,  Fred Singer, from the New Zealand Center for Political Research, shows that climate models being used to generate the dire warnings are not accurate . As stated on Powerline, the models “do not accurately explain either the Earth’s climate history, or the present distribution of global temperatures.”

My point being, we should be thinking long and hard about bankrupting ourselves trying to solve a problem which we have little or no control over (global temperature swings).  We certainly should not do so based on herd mentality pseudo-science espoused by the likes of Al Gore and our current president and media.  Until they admit that there is large scale disagreement in the scientific community on this issue, and until they publicly state that they realize there is more we do not know on this topic than what we do know, you should fight hard to keep them away from your pocketbooks.
